Description
Founded in 1996, the Krewe of Oshun deliberately selected to feature the orisha, Oshun, a spirit of rivers, attraction, beauty and the power to divine the future, her mother, Yemoja and consort, and Shango, a powerful deity of thunder and lightning and former ruler of the ancient Oyo kingdom in Nigeria. These deities comprise the key characters of the krewe’s annual court along with Iya Mapo, the goddess of Nigerian women’s indigenous pottery, indigo dying, crafts, and professional trades.
